CEDAR CITY — A 14-year-old boy was seriously injured after he was accidentally shot by his younger sister, police said.

The shooting happened at about 4 p.m. Tuesday at a home on the 4000 block of the Buena Vista subdivision, the Iron County Sheriff's Office said.

"They were playing with airsoft pistols, and the girl inadvertently grabbed a loaded .22 pistol and accidentally shot her brother in the neck," Iron County Sheriff's detective Jody Edwards said Tuesday afternoon.

The boy was rushed to Cedar City's Valley View Medical Center where he was reported to be alert, but seriously injured. Authorities were still investigating details surrounding the shooting.
