Utah attorney general candidate Jean Welch Hill has scored an endorsement of national proportions: She was endorsed by former presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y.

"Over the years, Jean has demonstrated the kind of leadership that Utah needs in the attorney general's office. She will be a fighter for quality public education, for affordable health care and for those in need," Clinton said in a statement posted on the Web site of the Utah Democratic Party.

Clinton recently appeared in Utah to stump for presidential candidate Barack Obama.

Hill said in a statement she was honored to receive the endorsement. The Democratic candidate is up against Republican incumbent Mark Shurtleff and Libertarian candidate Andy McCullough in the Nov. 4 election.
