A West High School teacher accused of having sexual relations with a 17-year-old student has been bound over for trial.
Jose Barnardo Fanjul, 45, had his preliminary hearing in Salt Lake City's 3rd District Court on Tuesday. According to court minutes, Salt Lake County prosecutors plan to pursue amended charges to include rape, a first-degree felony.
The teacher is charged with five counts of first-degree felony forcible sodomy, and five counts of second-degree felony forcible sex abuse. Prosecutors accuse him of engaging in various sexual acts with a girl at West High School after hours.
Fanjul will be arraigned on Nov. 10.
