"A Ride Along the Lincoln Highway" (Tuesday, 7 p.m., Ch. 7) spends several minutes in Utah, providing an accurate (if not altogether flattering) portrait of parts of the state.

It's always easy to tell if someone isn't local if they suggest you take a dip in the Great Salt Lake, but producer Rick Sebak drives out past the Kennecott smokestacks adjacent to the lake. And then he stops at Saltair, with a brief look at the history of that site.

He traverses the Salt Flats, travels to Tooele and then on dirt roads through some of the most remote parts of the state.

And when Sebak says, "After the Utah desert, Ely, Nevada, feels like civilization," well, he does have a point.
