Mom-does-nothing week proves to be rousing success

Fabulously, I could more clearly see a new balance, that we were ready to go to the next level. I could cut back on a few things that could now be turned over to them full time (say cooking a full meal one night a week), a few things I could eliminate (the habit of picking up after them), and a few things I wanted to retain (love notes in their mailboxes and homemade bread from the breadmaker when they get home).

In all, I have to say the week was a rousing success. Not only did each child openly admit that mother does more than do her nails and eat chocolate (right on at least one count), they also have returned to being only slightly complaining children who do chores without so much reminding and blatant threats (did I just say that?).

If you're tired of hearing the nagging, whining and complaining, simply give your children a more realistic view of what you do and let them come groveling at your knees, er, I mean, thanking you profusely for all you do.

Rather than tell them, let them experience what it's like to coordinate laundry, dinner, house cleanup and neighborhood errands firsthand. You will enjoy the ensuing peace and appreciation from both ties.

LIFETip: Try a weeklong experiment of turning over four to five key chores to your older children. And do it with a smile and appreciation!
