"We'll just have to see how things go. Ronnie's been here for a year and he deserves a chance to play," Sloan said. "I'll substitute 'em the best I can and see what happens."

Ronnie Brewer led Utah with 22 points, while usual reserve Channing Frye topped six Blazers in double digits with 17 points.

SCOOBY-DOO BOOBOO: Those who got a close-up view of Carlos Boozer's face noticed a peculiar sight beneath his eye: a Scooby-Doo bandage covering a small cut that happened in practice earlier this week.

Turns out, Boozer has somebody who helps him dress — his wounds, at least.

"My little man, Carmani, picked out my Band-Aid," Boozer said. "He picked out Scooby Doo tonight, so that's what I was rockin'." No word on how many Scooby Snacks Boozer earned for his 16-point, 15-rebound game.

SIDELINED: Along with Williams, Jarron Collins (right triceps tendinitis) and Matt Harpring (ankle injury rehab) didn't play due to medical issues. Center Kyrylo Fesenko, who was sick and missed Wednesday's practice, dressed but didn't see any court action. ... Free agent point guard Gerry McNamara, whose days are likely numbered with the Jazz, did not play per coach's decision. The Jazz must make a decision on his future by Monday when teams are required to whittle their rosters down to 15 players. The Jazz currently have 16, and all but the former Syracuse standout have guaranteed deals this season.

MISC.: Chicago on Thursday waived former Jazz forward Roger Powell, one of Deron Williams' ex-teammates at the University of Illinois, and former Jazz big man Michael Ruffin, who missed all of the preseason due to a sprained ankle. According to the Chicago Tribune, however, the Bulls plan to re-sign Ruffin if he clears waivers. ... Earlier this week, the Milwaukee Bucks waived Kevin Kruger — the point guard last season for the NBA Development League's Jazz-affiliated Utah Flash.
