U. sophomore named Miss Latina US

University of Utah sophomore Diana Franca bested 18 contestants from around the country to earn the crown of Miss Latina US 2009 last week in San Antonio.

The Brazilian-born Franca has been a Salt Lake resident for seven years and is majoring in international relations.

She has been recognized by a number of organizations, and her honors include Utah Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Scholar; Academic All-State Volleyball; All-American Academic Volleyball; High School Diploma of Merit; and Sterling Scholar, World Languages.

Franca won a $15,000 prize package to go with her pageant victory and a chance to compete in the upcoming Miss Latin America of the World competition.
