John McCain is the poster boy for the Republican tactic of blaming the opponent for doing the very thing that Republicans have been doing. This is a favorite Republican (Karl Rovian) tactic that we have seen time and again during the Bush years of using lies, spin, diversion and cover-up. Its success depends, no doubt, on a population of voters who are not paying attention and care little about what takes place or who get their "news" from the likes of Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity.
McCain, the candidate, is not McCain the "maverick reformer" that he used to be. In his arrogant zeal for personal aggrandizement he has abandoned his past values, sidled up to the far right, embraced the Rovian-Republican demagogues and their "win at all costs" tactics. Instead of positioning himself to reform his own party, McCain has sold his soul.
