Utah Jazz: Williams goes down with ankle injury
Williams was coming down after taking a 3-pointer with five minutes and 39 seconds to go in the period when he appeared to land on the foot of Bulls rookie point Derrick Rose.
He sustained an inversion sprain, but X-rays on the ankle — which appeared to bend quite awkwardly — were negative.
No timetable for his return is known, a team spokesman said.
The Jazz open the regular season Oct. 29 vs. Denver, and have one preseason game left before then.
The 2008 Olympic gold medal-winning guard remained on the court in obvious pain for several moments after the injury, then was carried off the United Center floor by teammates C.J. Miles and Ronnie Brewer.
Williams sat for a moment on the Jazz bench before being taken to the locker room in a wheelchair.
Jazz center Kyrylo Fesenko took the three free throws stemming from Rose's foul on Williams, and Williams was then replaced in the lineup by reserve guard Ronnie Price.
