FUNDRAISING 5K
A 5K run/walk fundraiserr will be held this Saturday in Provo on behalf of Stephanie Nielson and her family, who are dealing with the aftermath of a tragic airplane crash. Nielson and her husband, Christian, were severely burned in the August wreck in eastern Arizona. A flight instructor died as a result of the crash.
Stephanie Nielson, a Provo native and mother of four, remains in critical condition and is in a chemically induced coma at a burn unit in Arizona.
The fundraiser run will start and end at Rotary Park (1460 N. 1500 West). Registration begins at 8 a.m., and the run kicks off at 9 a.m. Organizers are suggesting donations of $10 per person and $20 per family to help with the recovery fund.

JOIN DWR AT CHECK STATIONS
The public is invited to join Division of Wildlife Resources biologists at deer-hunt check stations throughout the state this weekend.
DWR biologists will be sampling deer lymph nodes to check the state's herds for chronic wasting disease. Biologists will staff check stations statewide throughout the opening weekend of the annual deer hunt. In addition to sampling for disease, they will assess the overall condition of harvested deer.
Check stations will be open Saturday and Sunday at various locations across Utah.

HORSE-LOVERS CLINIC
Renowned farrier/clinician/researcher Gene Ovnicek will be conducting a three-day public clinic open to horse lovers and horse professionals in the greater Four Corners area this weekend.
The event will begin Friday at 6 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express, 217 S. 100 East in Kanab, and run through Sunday. The clinic will involve lectures, demonstrations and hands-on training. The clinic is co-sponsored by Best Friends Animal Society and Equine Lameness Prevention Organization.
Participants will learn about barefoot trimming, shoeing and the latest scientific findings and ways to keep their equine companions performing at their optimal level.
