When sighting in a scope, shooters need to remember that with most scopes, one click on the adjustment is equal to 1/4-inch movement in the bullet at 100 yards. Four clicks would translate to one inch.

Rackl recommends shooters shoot three-shot groups when sighting in a rifle. This allows them to triangulate to the center of the pattern.

It is also suggested that they sight in the rifle using a dead-rest off a bench, or even a rifle vise to hold the weapon.

Once the rifle has been sighted in, then it is important to do a little practicing. Not all shots in the field are from a dead-rest. So, hunters should practice marksmanship in a variety of different positions — prone, standing, sitting, kneeling. This way, when they get in the field, they can feel comfortable with any shot.

One tip he offered was that hunters should concentrate on the trigger squeeze when shooting. They can get a steady hold and line the target perfectly in the sights, but if they yank on the trigger instead of squeeze it, they'll likely miss the target.

The Lee Kay range has 37 shooting stations on the big bore ranges — at distances of 100, 200 and 300 yards. The pistol range has 35 stations and three distances — 15, 25 and 50 yards.
