A 21-year-old Sandy man has been charged after police say he threatened to kill his aunt with a gun and then raped her.

According to charges filed in 3rd District Court, the man shared a residence with his aunt by marriage. On Oct. 10, he became angry and punched two holes in the wall. Police said he punched a refrigerator next to the victim and then punched her as well.

He pulled out a gun and told her, "Today is going to be your last day alive," and "I've killed before. Why shouldn't I do it again?" according to police. A child was present during the assault, police said.

The victim told police he then pushed her into his bedroom and raped her.

The man faces charges of rape and forcible sodomy, both first-degree felonies, and aggravated assault and domestic violence in the presence of a child, both third-degree felonies. Bail was set at $250,000.
