Granite School Board has unanimously approved naming its newest school building Diamond Ridge Elementary School.

The 92,534-square-foot building is being constructed at approximately 6050 W. 6200 South.

Slated to open in fall 2009, the school is costing Granite School District $12.9 million, not including land and furnishings. The money is coming from the district's capital fund, not from a bond.

A naming committee created a list of about a dozen names and then distributed surveys to 560 parents, students and faculty members, with 330 surveys returned.

Diamond Ridge received top votes, followed by Diamond Summit, Mountain View, Olympic Summit and Legacy.
