College soccer: Utes, Cougars post soccer wins

The University of Utah soccer team (6-7-2, 2-1-0) defeated defending Mountain West Conference champion UNLV (9-5-1, 1-2-0) by a 3-1 score Saturday at Ute Field in cold, windy conditions.

The game-winning goal was struck by sophomore forward Lauren Hair, who prepped at Lone Peak, as she found the back of the net for the first time this season.

Hair's goal came in the 60th minute of play, snapping a 1-1 tie. She was played into the box by junior midfielder Kelly Isleib, who notched her team-leading fourth assist of the season and first game-winning assist.

Ashleigh Shoughro and Lauren Porter scored the other goals for Utah.

BYU 2, SAN DIEGO STATE 0: At Provo, forwards Kassidy Christensen and Lauren Anderson scored in the first half to help BYU beat the Aztecs. Christensen started the scoring at the 13:24 mark after Kelsea Kakadelas tapped an Anderson corner kick to her in the middle of the box.

Anderson scored the second goal from about 20 yards out when she blasted the through a crowd of players in the box past the diving SDSU keeper.

SUU 3, WESTMINSTER 0: At Cedar City, Southern Utah used three first-half goals to post a shutout victory over the Westminster Griffins on Saturday afternoon in front of the largest crowd of the season during the team's annual "Breast Cancer Awareness" game. The win moves the Thunderbirds to 4-7-0 on the year, while Westminster drops to 5-8-1.

Southern Utah recorded all of their goals in the first 45 minutes of the game with Erin Marble starting the attack in the 7th minute, blasting the ball into the back of the net as she broke ahead of the Westminster defense at about 12 yards. Laura Goodrich was credited with the assist. Shaley Ipson-Allen and Erica Berlin scored the other two goals.
