EPHRAIM The No. 2 ranked Snow College football team took sole possession of first place in the Western States Football League with a convincing 58-12 win over New Mexico Military Institute Saturday.
Freshman quarterback Quinn Mecham (Timpview High School) threw for 434 yards and seven touchdowns, and the Badgers put together 227 yards on the ground in the win.
"Our offense came out and played like champions," said head coach Steve Coburn. "We moved the ball really well. Quinn played an amazing game."
Mecham hit nine different receivers in the game, including sophomore Regan Buck and freshman tight end Jordan Lower (Ogden High School) for two touchdowns apiece. Buck finished with 131 receiving yards. Mecham completed 22 of his 28 passes in the game.
Running backs Tyson Church (North Sanpete High School) and BJ McKenzie each averaged over 6 yards a carry. McKenzie led the Badgers with 103 yards and a touchdown, and Church tacked on 76 yards.
After giving up two touchdowns in the second quarter, the Badger defense held the Broncos scoreless in the second half.
Prior to the game, Snow and Mew Mexico shared the conference lead. The win moves the Badgers to 7-0 on the season and to first place in the WSFL.
The Badgers controlled the tempo of the game, scoring the contest's first two touchdowns and rolling to a 34-12 halftime lead. Snow had a 14 minute time of possession advantage over New Mexico Millitary.
Snow hosts Pima Community College Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in Ephraim.
