As chairman of Tracy Aviary's board of directors, it has been extremely rewarding to witness the wonderful education programs offered by the aviary's education staff. But it has also been frustrating, because with its current facilities, the aviary can meet only 30 percent of the demand for its education programming.
Salt Lake County voters will have an opportunity to change that in the upcoming election. Proposition 1 would authorize a $19.6 million bond for improvements at the aviary. If it passes on Nov. 4, the new facilities would enable the aviary to expand its education programs and reach thousands more kids.
We hope the voters will see for themselves. During the upcoming UEA weekend (Oct. 16-19), admission to the aviary will be absolutely free. We hope the public will take a closer look at the wonderful education opportunities the aviary provides for Salt Lake County kids.
