The Utah Valley Symphony is commemorating its 50th anniversary with a seasonlong celebration under the baton of Bryce Rytting, who is marking his 10th season as the orchestra's music director.

Making the event more noteworthy is the fact that there are seven musicians who have been with the orchestra since its beginning

The season gets under way Wednesday and Thursday with Rimsky-Korsakov's "Capriccio Espagnol," Wagner's Prelude to Act III of "Lohengrin" and Kodaly's "Dances of Galanta."

There will be a reception after each concert where audience members can mingle with the musicians.

Concerts are at 7:30 p.m. in the Covey Arts Center, 425 W. Center St., Provo. Tickets are $40-$50 for season passes, $8-$10 for individual concerts and $3 for dress rehearsals and are available by calling 801-852-7007 or are online at utahvalleysymphony.org.

The season schedule follows below. There are open dress rehearsals at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays prior to the concerts, which begin at 7:30 p.m.:

• Dec. 3-4: Family Christmas Concert, with sing-along.

• Jan. 21-22: Side-by-Side Concert, with members of the Utah Valley Youth Symphony and the Utah Valley University Symphony.

• March 11-12: Young Artists Concert

• April 29-30: Brahms' "A German Requiem," with the Utah Valley University Masterworks Chorale and the Wasatch Chorale.
