WEST VALLEY CITY — A 14-year-old boy on Monday allegedly clobbered one of his classmates with a pair of brass knuckles to steal a cell phone, police said.

The victim, also 14, was walking home from school near Hunter Park at 3600 S. 6000 West around 5 p.m. when the boy confronted him, said Lt. Dalan Taylor of West Valley Police Department. The boy demanded the victim's cell phone, but the victim refused, Taylor said. Taylor said the boy then struck the victim in the head with a pair of brass knuckles.

"(The victim) had a nice-sized lump on his head from where he was hit," Taylor said.

The victim made his way home and told his mother about the robbery, Taylor said. She then called police, who were able to track down the boy.

Police arrested the boy for investigation of robbery, Taylor said, and booked him into a juvenile detention center. The victim's mother took him to the hospital for a checkup.
