Spanish Fork tight end commits to play for Y.
Wilson turned down Stanford, LSU and Miami
Spanish Fork tight end Richard Wilson committed to play football for BYU on Friday morning.
"Everything just felt right," said Wilson, who was also being recruited by LSU, Miami and Stanford.
"Yeah, I looked at them pretty hard," he said. "But in the end, (it was) playing close to home and I really like the way BYU uses their tight ends."
Wilson grew up a University of Utah fan, as his father Mark is an alumnus.
"It'll be a little different," Wilson said with a laugh. "But my parents have been supportive of anywhere I wanted to go."
Wilson said he called BYU coaches Friday morning to inform them of his intention. He will play a year before leaving on a mission, as he doesn't turn 19 until the spring of his freshman year in college.
And while the talented young man has enjoyed the recruiting process, he's also relieved now that he's made his decision.
"It's been a good experience," he said. "It's been fun and stressful."
So does Wilson's commitment mean Xavier Su'a Filo, one of the country's best offensive linemen, will follow him to BYU?
Wilson's not sure, but he's hopeful.
"Me and X have become really good friends throughout the recruiting process, and we wanted to try and play together," he said.
