State Rep. Steve Mascaro, R-West Jordan, says he is sorry that a 500-copy mailer went out to some of his absentee voters without the "paid for by the Steve Mascaro campaign" on it.
Mascaro's Democratic challenger, Jennifer Burley Wolfe, says she has filed a complaint with the State Elections Office over the mailer. By law, all candidate's campaign material must say who has paid for the material.
She said in a statement that not including the disclaimer "is a little bit unfair I'm following the law and he's not."
Mascaro said it is his mistake and he apologizes for it. "My printer left that information off of my first mailer it went out to 502 absentee voters." Mascaro said he didn't catch it when he proofread the mailer, and neither did his campaign manager. All further Mascaro mailings will have the disclaimer, Mascaro promised. The mailer did not mention Wolfe at all, nor criticize her in any way. It was only positive statements about himself, the representative said.
