A 20-year-old Farr West man has been arrested after police say he stabbed his mother numerous times with a knife.

Officers were called to Tyler John Hamlen's home Wednesday afternoon, after he called 911 to report two masked men had forced their way in and stabbed his mother. She is hospitalized at Ogden's McKay-Dee Hospital in critical, but stable condition after undergoing surgery for wounds to her back, chest, stomach, throat and hands.

"Through the investigation, we discovered he was the person who stabbed his mother," Weber County Sheriff's Sgt. John Morrow said Thursday.

Hamlen was booked into the Weber County Jail on investigation of attempted murder, where he is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail. He is in a medical cell where he is under constant observation, authorities said.

Morrow would not reveal a motive for the attack.

Hamlen is bipolar and mentally challenged, said Weber County Sheriff's Capt. Klint Anderson. Authorities have responded to his home in the past on domestic disturbances. Morrow said Hamlen was arrested about two months ago in an investigation that was referred to Farr West's Justice Court.
