Utah legislators rallied a crowd of 60 placard-waving abortion opponents to promote a measure that would ban the procedure in all cases except for rape, incest or the life of a pregnant woman.
Rep. Carl Wimmer, R-Herriman, and others said they would reintroduce legislation in January that has failed to gain traction in previous sessions of the Legislature.
The group Planned Parenthood said the sponsors were setting the state up for a legal fight that would cost millions of dollars. Sponsors said they welcomed a challenge all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.
