Lost hiker spending night on mountain

A hiker was spending a night on a mountain after getting lost while hiking the Mount Olympus trail on Sunday.

The man called police Sunday afternoon and said he was lost and dehydrated, emergency dispatchers said. A helicopter located the man several miles southeast of the trailhead, but the terrain was too rugged to land Sunday night.

With nightfall coming, a care package that included water and a flashlight was dropped. Search and rescue efforts were expected to resume this morning, dispatchers said.
