Dining out: Olympus Burgers
This worn-at-the-edges Murray building, home to several eateries over the years, is obscured by the next-door landscaping if you're driving up from the south. From the north, though, the red sign is in the clear, pointing the way to a small, comfy dining space and fresh burgers with a Greek twist.
There's plenty of just-plain Greek food, too, like the gyro and spanakopita I ordered when we visited for lunch on a recent Saturday. The gyro was just fine; I especially liked the way the cooks had grilled the gyro meat before wrapping it in a pita, giving it extra sear and flavor. It came in waxed paper and foil next to a plate filled with lemony Greek rice and fresh salad with tangy Greek dressing.
The spanakopita had delicious spinach and feta flavors and a delicate top crust, though its bottom crust was a little soggy. It was generously portioned; we all shared bites, treating it like an appetizer.
Two of our girls had the chicken tenders platter, two breaded tenders cooked golden-brown with fries, while our son had the kids' cheeseburger, which was large enough to satisfy quite a few adults. Our youngest daughter, a big fan of soup, tried the chicken-lemon-rice variety and then practically had to wrestle it away from me, so beguiling was this silky, buttery, lemony delight.
I ordered creamy rice pudding, liberally dusted with cinnamon, and we planned to get shakes to finish off our meal. But though the ones we saw fellow diners enjoying looked tasty in the stand-a-spoon-in-it Utah tradition, we were just too full to get one this time. Maybe next time; we'll just look for the trees as 6100 South approaches, and we're there.
Combo meals $5.23-$8.40 (or make any sandwich a combo for $2.90 extra), sandwiches $1.89-$6.10, dinners $8.40, salad $2.06-$7.46, sides 25 cents-$4.85, low-carb platter $7.83, kids' meals $4.19, desserts 93 cents-$3.10.
