OGDEN The transformation from railroad town to outdoors paradise takes another step this weekend as Ogden hosts two days of activities, competitions and expos.
The Mountain to Metro weekend features a little bit of everything. From kayak races down the Class III and IV rapids of the Ogden River to a twilight criterium for road cyclists, the weekend will keep people busy.
It all starts Friday night with a cyclocross race at the Ogden Amphitheater as well as demonstrations of BMX cyclists, aerial trampolines, acrobats and longboarders.
There is an outdoors film festival as well as a climbing wall and mountain expo.
Things really get hopping, though, on Saturday in downtown Ogden with a gear swap, farmers market and a full afternoon of bike racing around the municipal block. The four-corner criterium features a $2,500 purse and has races that will attract the best cyclists in the state not to mention some of the youngest, as even children will have a chance to race their bikes around the block in a free kids race and fun run.
Saturday's kayak race will take participants down the Ogden River starting at 11 a.m. After that, there's a 7-mile trail run along the Bonneville Shoreline Trail at 3 p.m.
