Governor taps 2 for judgeships in appellate, 6th District courts

The 3rd District's top judge has been tapped to fill a spot on the Utah Court of Appeals.

Robert K. Hilder was selected by Gov. John Huntsman Jr. to take the spot on the bench vacated by the retirement of Judith Billings, one of the appeals court's six original members. Hilder has served in Park City and Salt Lake City as a trial judge for 12 years.

"Judge Hilder has been an excellent trial court judge for more than 12 years and brings with him valuable knowledge and experience to our court of appeals," the governor said. "I am grateful for his willingness to serve in this capacity."

Huntsman has also named Marvin D. Bagley, the county attorney for Piute and Wayne counties, to fill a 6th District vacancy created by Judge David L. Mower's retirement.

Bagley also works as city prosecutor for the cities of Manti, Gunnison and Escalante and represents several other communities in the area as well. He has a private civil practice in Richfield.

The 6th District includes Garfield, Kane, Sanpete, Sevier, Piute and Wayne counties.

The appointments of Hilder and Bagley must be confirmed by the Senate.
