An accident Monday night on I-15 near University Parkway in Orem killed an 18-year-old man and closed the southbound lanes for three hours.
A compact car driven by Travis Lindsey was headed south at 9:45 p.m. Monday when it drifted to the left, overcorrected and rolled multiple times, said Cameron Roden of the Utah Highway Patrol. When the vehicle came to rest, it blocked southbound traffic.
Neither the driver nor the passenger, 20-year-old Rory Symons, were wearing seat belts. Both were ejected. Lindsey landed on I-15 and Symons landed on the shoulder. Lindsey was pronounced dead at the scene. Symons was taken to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in critical condition.
Roden said speed and bald tires may have been factors in the accident, though it is still under investigation.
