LDS Church News: The church and lush green foliage flourish in Taiwan

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- When he stepped off a boat in Taiwan on New Year's Day 1959, Elder Gerald H. Walker from Utah was among the earliest missionaries to serve here, just three years after the first had arrived from Hong Kong in the Southern Far East Mission. He didn't know the Chinese language as he went forth to teach the gospel of Jesus Christ in a land dominated by Buddhism and Taoism.
