PROVO Police arrested a man after a 14-year-old girl reported to police that she'd been raped after being given alcohol.
Police learned that in late June, the man, 24, had been camping in the Mineral Basin area of American Fork Canyon with the young girl, and another 14-year-old friend and her parents, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed in 4th District Court.
The girl told police the man had given her alcohol, but she continued to say no to his sexual advances and to more alcohol. The man told her it would be OK and the girl soon passed out from consuming too much alcohol, police said.
The young friend told police she had seen the sleeping bag moving so she pulled it aside and found the man forcing himself on the passed-out girl, police said.
The friend was scared and ran out of the tent, while the man told her to stay out and warn him if her parents came back to the campground.
The man was arrested Friday night and booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of rape, lewdness and contributing to the delinquency of a minor on $10,000 cash or bond bail.
