Four people were injured in a rollover accident on State Street late Sunday night.
A sport utility vehicle with 11 people inside five adults and six children collided with another vehicle at the intersection of 800 S. State just before 11:30 p.m. Witnesses told police the SUV may have run a red light, said Salt Lake police spokeswoman Lara Jones.
The occupants of the SUV were all Iraqi refugees who had recently come to Utah, Jones said. Most of the group was reportedly related in some way to each other.
The force of the impact between the two cars caused the SUV to roll several times. One woman was partially ejected and suffered a severe leg injury. She was upgraded to critical condition after being taken to a local hospital, Jones said.
A man had his hand crushed and was upgraded to serious condition at a local hospital. Another man was in serious condition with a shoulder injury. A 7-year-old boy was also transported to a local hospital in serious condition with a cut to his head, Jones said.
