KEY CALL

Giving the speedy David Reed the chance to return kickoffs against UNLV paid off nicely for the Utes. Reed changed the momentum of the game with his 49-yard kickoff return to open the second half. It helped Utah take its first lead of the game.

QUOTABLE

"I could tell they've been doing some tackling drills this year. The big 15-20 yard runs I was getting last year were more like 5 this time. Their defense did a good job.—UNLV running back Frank Summers, who rushed for 190 yards last season, but was held to 87 yards on Saturday night."
