Motorcyclist rear-ends car on I-15, ends up in hospital
A Lehi man is in critical condition after crashing his motorcycle into a car on I-15 early Saturday.
Utah Highway Patrol trooper Cameron Roden said the man had merged onto the freeway's northbound lanes from the Lehi Main Street on-ramp shortly after 1 a.m. The motorcyclist then crossed into a left-hand lane, rear-ending a Volkswagen driven by a Nevada man. Roden said the motorcyclist likely was traveling faster than the posted 65 mph speed limit.
The motorcyclist was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition. The Volkswagen driver was not injured.
Shortly after the accident, a three-car collision occurred involving drivers attempting to avoid the downed motorcyclist and his bike. One man was transported to a hospital with minor injuries as a result of that incident.
Roden said traffic was diverted off the freeway and through Lehi for about three hours following the accidents.
