UNLV (0-0, 1-0) at UTAH (0-0, 1-0)
Sunny, 83 degrees
Today, 6 p.m. Rice-Eccles Stadium (45,017) FieldTurf playing surface Salt Lake
TV: The Mtn. Radio: 700AM
THE STAKES
For Utah: Revenge. The nationally ranked Utes are still smarting over the loss to UNLV in 2007. A victory would also get them off to a successful start in Mountain West Conference play.
For UNLV: The Rebels are seeking their first 2-0 start since 1999.
They're also looking for their first win in Salt Lake City, having gone 0-6 in games at the University of Utah.
THE TRENDS
For Utah: Utah enters the game with victories in nine of its past 10 outings over two seasons.
For UNLV: UNLV has lost 15 consecutive Mountain West Conference games on the road.
THE EDGE
Utah will win if ... the Utes are able to shut down Summers and put some points on the board. They had a 14-year scoring streak snapped last year in Las Vegas.
UNLV will win if ... the Rebels can repeat what they did against Utah in 2007. If lightning strikes twice, they've got a chance. Otherwise, it could get ugly.
NEXT UP
at Utah State, Sept. 13, 6 p.m. ... Utah's final visit to Logan for a couple of years.
PLAYER TO WATCH
FRANK 'THE TANK' SUMMERS, running back: Summers rushed for 190 yards and two touchdowns in last year's 27-0 win over Utah. The 5-foot-10, 230-pound senior had 87 yards in a season-opening win over Utah State.
KEY MATCHUP
Utah's defense vs. Summers. The Utes missed 20 tackles against UNLV last season and were accused of being afraid to tackle Summers. Odds are "Frank the Tank" and the Rebels will get hit more often this time around.
Injury report: Nose tackle Kenape Eliapo (foot) will be out 6-8 weeks. Safety Robert Johnson (hamstring), backup quarterback Corbin Louks (shoulder) and left tackle Zane Beadles (knee) will be game-time decisions.
