A teenage boy died Friday from injuries he sustained as a passenger in a car that was rear-ended by another vehicle Thursday night.
Isaac Martinez, 15, was riding in the back seat of a Honda Civic that was stopped at a red light at the intersection of 1200 West and North Temple when the accident occurred just before 11 p.m., said Salt Lake police spokeswoman Lara Jones. A Chevy Blazer driven by a 19-year-old slammed into the car without braking, she said.
Martinez was taken by helicopter to a hospital Thursday night in critical condition. An adult passenger also in the back seat received critical injuries, but a condition update was not available Friday.
Jones said it appeared the driver of the Blazer simply didn't see that the Civic was stopped at a light.
An investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing and includes the potential for charges, according to a statement police released Friday.
