Five people were injured, including a teenager who suffered extremely critical injuries, when police say an inattentive driver slammed into the back of their vehicle Thursday night in Salt Lake City.

The group was stopped at a traffic light near the Utah State Fair, at the intersection of 1200 West North Temple. While stopped at the light, another vehicle slammed into the rear of their car without braking, Salt Lake police spokeswoman Lara Jones said.

A 15-year-old in the backseat sustained extremely critical injuries and was flown to a local hospital, Jones said. An adult in the backseat was also taken to the hospital in critical condition, Jones said. A 2-year-old child suffered minor arm injuries and the two adults in the front seats suffered just minor injuries.

Jones said it appeared the driver that caused the accident simply didn't see the vehicle stopped at the light. No one in the vehicle that caused the accident was injured, she said.
