Police believe alcohol was a factor in a traffic accident early Tuesday that left a teenager in critical condition.
Just before 12:30 a.m., a vehicle ran a red light at the intersection of 1300 South and Main, said Salt Lake police spokeswoman Lara Jones. The car was struck on the driver's side by a vehicle that had the green light.
The teenage driver of the car that ran the red light was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. Police did not release the boy's name or age Tuesday but noted he was of legal driving age. An adult male passenger in the same car was taken to a local hospital in fair condition.
The driver and passenger of the other vehicle were not injured.
Jones said, "It was apparent to the officer that alcohol was involved," but would not release any other details Tuesday about why police believe alcohol was a factor.
