Powder Mountain council nominees want more control

OGDEN — The people nominated to run the new Powder Mountain town government say they're the ones who will be most affected by the changes, and they would like to be in charge.

Weber County Commissioners approved plans last month for the ski resort about 20 miles northeast of Ogden to incorporate into a town. But the matter of local government has been a sticking point.

Developers are allowed to submit nominees for the town council and mayor, but the picks have to be approved by the county. County commissioners rejected the list, saying they wanted a wider selection.

Lavar Lowther is one of the nominees. He says he lives on Powder Mountain Road and would like to have some say in the traffic and development plans.
