NOTE: The Deseret News top 25 is based on voting by 14 prep football writers. Total points are based on 25 points for a first-place vote through one point for a 25th-place vote.

1. Alta (2-0) Class: 5A

Was: 1. Points: 349. Last week: Beat Bingham, 27-19.

Outlook: The inexperienced Hawks kept their poise in the big game and dominated Bingham after the first quarter. Next up: at Kearns, Friday.

2. Timpview (2-0) Class: 4A

Was: 2. Points: 334. Last week: Beat Spanish Fork, 57-12.

Outlook: What a difference a week makes. T-Birds were dominant in Week 2 to run their winning streak to 25, which is the second-longest streak in state history. Next up: at Lone Peak, Friday.

3. Cottonwood (2-0) Class: 4A

Was: 3. Points: 317. Last week: Beat Layton, 40-36.

Outlook: Colts rattled off 14 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to edge last year's 5A runner-up. Next up: vs. Pine View, Friday.

4. Skyline (2-0) Class: 5A

Was: 6. Points: 298. Last week: Beat East, 19-16.

Outlook: For the second week in a row, Skyline High faces a cross-town rival on Friday evening. Next up: at Highland, Friday.

5. Northridge (1-1) Class: 5A

Was: 5. Points: 276. Last week: Lost to Crespi, Calif., 30-13.

Outlook: Poor fourth quarter doomed the Knights against highly-regarded Crespi. Next up: vs. Mountain Crest, Friday.

6. Pine View (2-0) Class: 4A

Was: 8. Points: 268. Last week: Beat Dominguez, Calif., 24-21.

Outlook: Following a narrow win to an out-of-state squad, it doesn't get any easier for Pine View this week. Next up: at Cottonwood, Friday.

7. Layton (1-1) Class: 5A

Was: 3. Points: 266. Last week: Lost to Cottonwood, 40-36.

Outlook: Lancers showed lots of grit and resolve last Friday, and they'll look to display those same characteristics at Jordan High this weekend. Next up: at Jordan, Friday.

8. Jordan (1-1) Class: 5A

Was: 10. Points: 235. Last week: Beat Massillon, Ohio, 27-24.

Outlook: 'Diggers kicked a field goal as time expired to once again net a huge out-of-state victory. Next up: vs. Layton, Friday.

9. Mountain Crest (2-0) Class: 4A

Was: 9. Points: 226. Last week Beat Fremont, 35-28.

Outlook: Friday's win over struggling Fremont doesn't look all that impressive, as a strong Mustang third quarter proved to be the difference. Next up: at Northridge, Friday.

10. Logan (2-0) Class: 3A

Was: 11. Points: 214. Last week: Beat Park City, 35-14.

Outlook: QB Jeff Manning and his men ripped through Park City in what had been billed as a potential revenge game for Park City. So much for that. Next up: at Sky View, Friday.

11. Sky View (2-0) Class: 4A

Was: 12. Points: 206. Last week: Beat Campbell County, Wyo., 55-21.
