PROVO A man accused of attacking his mother and pregnant sister now faces assault and kidnapping charges.
Clark Richard Wiseman, 21, was charged Wednesday in 4th District Court with aggravated kidnapping, a first-degree felony, as well as three misdemeanors, including simple assault and damage/interrupting a communication device.
Police say Wiseman got into an argument with his mother Aug. 19 as they were driving to the store in Provo. He began hitting her, told her he was going to drive and headed to Springville, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed in court.
Wiseman's mother was able to get out of the car at one stop, but she said her son got out and dragged her back in by her hair. While driving back to Provo, police say, he threatened his mom again and told her he would kill her.
Once at home, police say, Wiseman began choking the elderly, frail woman and repeated his threats. When Wiseman's sister tried to intervene, he put her in a headlock and threw her down on the ground, according to officers.
Wiseman's mom had grabbed a phone by this point, which Wiseman took and broke, to prevent her from calling police. However, police arrived soon after and were able to arrest him after a struggle. He was booked into the Utah County Jail.
Wiseman requested and was granted a court-appointed attorney Wednesday and will be in court again Sept. 8 at 1 p.m.
