Film fans can reach out to local series and festivals

The touring event showcases narrative features and short films from Third World countries, Asia, Eastern Europe and the Middle East. "Global Lens 2008" starts Friday at the Broadway Centre Cinemas, 111 E. Broadway.

THE ORGAN LOFT'S FALL FILM FESTIVAL. The silent-movie show house, 3331 S. Edison, kicks off its fall season Sept. 11 and 12 with screenings of Buster Keaton's classic 1928 comedy "The Cameraman."

The festival continues through November, with showings of "The Extra-Girl" (Sept. 25 and 26), F.W. Murnau's "Nosferatu" (Oct. 9 and 10), the 1925 version of "Phantom of the Opera" (Oct. 22-24), "The Cheat" (Nov. 6 and 7), and "My Boy," starring Jackie Coogan (Nov. 20 and 21).

All programs feature live organ accompaniment provided by Blaine Gale. Show time for most screening events is 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $5. For more information or for group reservations, call 485-9265.
