MOAB — An afternoon lightning strike ignited a wildfire that was threatening homes Wednesday evening.

Homes in the Miner Basin area were evacuated after the Porcupine Ranch fire started above Castle Valley around 1:15 p.m. and later jumped the LaSal Loop road.

The 100-acre fire would likely continue growing into the night, according to the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands.

It was unclear how man structures were being threatened by the fire Wednesday. The Mason Draw Campground and the Warner Campground were also evacuated.

The fire has closed the LaSal Loop road between the Sand Flats and Castle Valley.
