Congratulations to Marjorie Cortez for her column about irradiation of food (Aug. 26). These days many consumers are swayed by scary scenarios from anti-technology, anti-chemical and anti-nuclear activists. As a result, sometimes we are overly hesitant to embrace safe, beneficial technologies in food production and handling. We're told that manmade is bad, natural is good. Well, harmful bacteria are "natural." Along with Marjorie, I say, "Nuke 'em."
