SANDY — The east transition team in the Jordan School District split met Monday afternoon in a closed session to discuss choosing an arbitrator. The west transition team aims to meet on Thursday for the same action.

By law, the transition teams each must choose an arbitrator by Sept. 1. There is still leeway, however, for the two teams to come up with a plan and use it even after arbitrators have been selected.

Both teams are continuing discussions on the mayors' proposal. Earlier this month, mayors in Jordan District presented a plan for the west side of the district to give $33 million to the east side.

In November, east-side residents voted to split from Jordan District and form their own school district. Since early spring the transition teams representing the east and west sides have been trying to agree on a plan to adequately split the district's assets and liabilities.
