Family finds grenade in relative's house

Family members cleaning out the house of a loved one who recently died were surprised to find what they thought were explosives.

The family was cleaning the house near 4000 West and 5000 South Wednesday and had already disposed of some gunpowder when they found what appeared to be an old grenade and dynamite.

Firefighters from the Unified Fire Authority responded and determined the dynamite was actually old road flares, said UFA Capt. Jay Fearnley. The grenade was possibly real and later detonated.
