PROVO — Mitt Romney endorsed Jason Chaffetz on Monday for Utah's 3rd Congressional District seat.

"I know Jason personally and have had the pleasure of working with him," Romney wrote in a campaign letter to be distributed in the run up to the November election. "I can say, unequivocally, that there is no one more dedicated to Utah than Jason."

Chaffetz added Romney's endorsement to a growing list that includes Gov. Jon Huntsman and Sens. Orrin Hatch and Bob Bennett.

Romney, who earned a remarkable 90 percent of the Utah vote during the state's Republican presidential primary in February, dropped out of the race and is supporting Arizona Sen. John McCain.

Chaffetz defeated six-term Congressman Chris Cannon by 20 points in the June Republican primary. Chaffetz is opposed by Democrat Bennion Spencer , who considers his top endorsement that of former KSL-TV news anchor Dick Nourse .

Chaffetz and Romney worked together, while Chaffetz was Huntsman's chief of staff, and Romney headed the Republican Governor's Association. Chaffetz also was a volunteer for Romney's presidential campaign.
