In response to Jeff Beaudry's letter (Readers' Forum, Aug. 12) about boycotting "Tropic Thunder," I say, why not boycott ALL movies? Most of them have the f-word (for "fat") in some form or another. But demeaning fat people has always been OK.
Why is it acceptable for people to "moo" and yell out their car windows at fat people getting some exercise when it wouldn't be OK to do the same to an "intellectually challenged" person waiting for the bus?
I am going to see "Tropic Thunder" today because I enjoy the antics of the main actors, including self-proclaimed chubster Jack Black, and I'm sure there will be plenty of fat remarks. I feel that I am mature enough not to use either the f- or r-word.
