First down: The defense dominated Tuesday's scrimmage at Rice-Eccles Stadium, making 12 tackles-for-loss and nine sacks. The Utes are scheduled to practice twice today.
Head-turner: Quarterback Brian Johnson made the most of his limited action in the defense-dominated scrimmage. He completed 9-of-10 passes for 93 yards. Head coach Kyle Whittingham was also pleased with the play of running back Sausan Shakerin and wide receiver Ryan Lacy.
Injury report: Wide receiver David Reed had an infected wisdom tooth removed and did not participate in the scrimmage. Reed, running back Matt Asiata (sprained ankle) and linebacker Stevenson Sylvester (knee tendinitis) are expected to be back on the practice field Thursday.
