ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. Federal investigators are at the scene of a collision between two single-engine planes that killed three people in the Rock Springs area.
The midair collision happened just after noon on Sunday.
A Federal Aviation Administration spokesman says a student pilot was taking off in a Cessna from the Rock Springs-Sweetwater County Airport when the Cessna collided with a plane coming in for a landing. The incoming plane, a Cirrus SR22, originated from Polson, Mont., and was carrying a pilot and a passenger.
All three people on board the planes were killed. Local authorities have not yet released the victims' names.
National Transportation Safety Board investigator Aaron Sauer says two NTSB investigators are on the scene of the crash. He says the investigation could take anywhere from six to 12 months.
