$14,203 — The average yearly tuition, room and board for public colleges and universities

28,996 — Number of private schools in the U.S. (2005-06)

3,690 — Number of public charter schools in the United States (2005-06).

4,276 — Number of colleges in the United States (2005)

18.4 million — Number of new college students this fall.
