• $7.5 billion — Amount Americans spent at family clothing stores in August 2007
• $2.3 billion — Amount spent at bookstores in August 2007
• 56 million — Number of students from kindergarten through grade 12 who will go back to school this fall.
• $14,203 — The average yearly tuition, room and board for public colleges and universities
• 28,996 — Number of private schools in the U.S. (2005-06)
• 3,690 — Number of public charter schools in the United States (2005-06).
• 4,276 — Number of colleges in the United States (2005)
• 18.4 million — Number of new college students this fall.
