First down: After two days of split sessions, the Utes practiced together for the first time Wednesday morning. They added shoulder pads while advancing through the NCAA's acclimatization period. A single practice is also scheduled for today.
Head-turner: Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said the defense, as a whole, flew around well in practice. On offense, Whittingham singled out running back Matt Asiata calling him the real deal. Fellow runners Darrell Mack, Ray Stowers and Eddie Wide also drew praise.
Injury report: Tight end Neli A'asa had a spring injury flare up and will have his knee scoped. He's expected to be sidelined for at least one week. Whittingham said the injury is nothing major but was accompanied by enough pain and discomfort to warrant getting it scoped.
